ABOUT

Early years

Inspired by the the films of Hans Hass and JY Causteau I took up diving in 1975 and completed my basic SCUBA training with Chelsea British Sub-Aqua Club at Manor Street, Chelsea swimming pool in London. Interested in marine biology I attended a 10 week course at the City of London Poly (now Metropolitan University) at Algate East for SCUBA divers. After this I enrolled for the two year diploma course. I also attended various University of London marine courses held at the Natural History Museum: .

I was always interested in photography and while on a diving trip to Sianai a diving buddy and friend, John Taylor loaned me a Nikonos 35mm camera for a few dives. I then purchased a Nikonos III 35mm film camera for myself. To improve my underwater photography I attended courses and workshops with John Taylor held on Lundy Is, Martin Edge and Kurt Amsler in the South of France. I'm now a published underwater photographer with images appearing in several ID books and magazines and winning the odd competition. For a few years I worked at Ocean Optics in London. Most of my first images were produced on film, now I shoot with digital. But having said that I have got some of my analog cameras out and have recently shot some B/W film.

When losing my Nikonos in Jenny's Cove on Lundy I bought myself a Nikon F2 and action finder together with an Ikelite housing after a few years bought an F801s and put that in a Subal. I now use a Nikon D7100 with a Nauticam housing and two INON Z240 strobes.

I have been involved in many UK marine field surveys as a volunteer at St Abbs Marine Reserve, Lundy Island in the Bristol Channel and South East Seasearch. I am a member of PHOTOSUB and BSoUP involved in the production BSoUP's In Focus magazine and a keen member of the Marine Conservation Society.

I am a BSAC Dive Leader, PADI Dive Maser and RAID Freediver .
